New School Registration

New schools may register from January – June 15 each school year. Requests submitted after that date will be held until registration opens the following January.

Register with K12 Programs

Welcome to K12 Programs administered by the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (SEAA). Visit the Registration Checklist page for a full list of registration requirements and blank copies of the required documents. For more information see instructions for uploading documents to MyPortal.

Complete the following required steps to register as a new Direct Payment School:

1. Register Your School with DNPE

Register with the North Carolina Division of Non-Public Education (DNPE) as a private school.

2. Submit a New School Signup Request with SEAA

Visit the New School Signup Request page.

3. Complete Background Check

Order a national criminal background check to be sent to SEAA. The statute that governs the K12 Programs requires that a national criminal background check be executed for the staff member who has the highest decision-making authority (HDMA) at your school.

4. Register with MyPortal

Once your school receives initial approval from SEAA, you will receive an email with your username and temporary password for MyPortal. MyPortal is the account management system used by schools that participate in K12 programs. Log into MyPortal to update your password and submit your remaining registration documents.

Timeline

  • New school registration begins in late January and ends on June 15 each year. Schools must submit a New School Signup Request in MyPortal no later than June 15.

  • The final day for schools that have already submitted their signup request to complete their registration documents is June 30.
