School Transfers
The Opportunity Scholarship awards funds to a student, not to a school.
The funding is portable, which means you can transfer your student’s scholarship to another eligible nonpublic school. You are responsible for notifying your current school that you wish to withdraw and for enrolling your student in a new school.

How to Transfer Funds to a New School
Once you have withdrawn your student from their current school, follow the steps below to transfer scholarship funds to the new school.
1. Download the instructions
Use these instructions to help you complete the process.
2. Log into MyPortal
Log into MyPortal and select “School Choice” and “Fill Out Student Transfer Form.”
3. Complete and Submit the Student Transfer Form
Program staff will collect withdrawal information and refund (if necessary) from the previous school.
4. Complete Certification & Endorsement
If funds are available to transfer, the new school will complete certification and endorsement. You will endorse after the school, and then funds will be sent to the new school.
Timing
The easiest time to transfer is between semesters or between school years. For these transfers, refunds typically are not required from the school.
- If you transfer your student during a semester, the first school may need to refund money before the second school can receive funds that semester (assuming funds remain from the student’s scholarship to pay the second school).
Availability of Funds
The amount of scholarship funding that can be sent to the new school depends on the number of weeks the student attended the previous school (refer to the School Transfer Guide to calculate the amount).

Other Changes to School Choice
The Student Transfer Form should not be used to make general updates to school choice. Send K12 scholarship staff a message in MyPortal using the “Contact Us” button or email us if your school choice needs to be updated.
